I am currently pursuing a degree in computer information systems, and I was just wondering what employers are looking for people like that. I was doing some research and I came across management information systems. Anybody know where I can start my career off as soon as I graduate. I will also pursue a Masters in this field as well so I can get a better job. Thank you in advance. Laterz people. What employers are looking for people with a degree in computer information systems?First, let me clue you on a few things. Employers are looking for punctual, neat, professional, and serious potential employees...with little drama and a lot of fun in them for the IT side. Each industry has its own standards...but each career path has its own ladder of success and employability. Talk things over with some professors that you admire, and, above all...WHEN guest lecturers come to campus for your classes GIVE them a resume! It shows that you are hungry for opportunity.
Next...where can you go? Depends upon where in the country that you are living, and whether or not you are willing to move. CNN.com Money has a new article that came out today about the jobs forecast for IT. And, yes, you would have to move to take advantage of it.
Since you will soon be a grad, let me offer my advice based upon Real Life 101: First, ANY job is a good job right out of college/university. You NEED work experience more than anything else. If it is in your field, so much the better...but concentrate on getting the sheepskin (degree) first and then do your job search. USE the resources of your college's Job Bank or Alumni Association. BTW...if you come from a really sharp college, you could become an employee OF the college. That way, you could work there during the day, and get to work on your Masters at night...at a sizeable cost savings! Many colleges/universities offer their EMPLOYEES up to fifty percent off on tuition, books, and full ride bennies!
Check with Chambers of Commerce, and outfits like Forbes.com, Inc.com, and BlackEnterprise.com. IF you work in the corporate sector, again, you will get some financial assistance...but it will take a while before this happens. What employers are looking for people with a degree in computer information systems? Many different employers are looking for people with degrees in computer information systems and you can check out the link referenced here for some of the best of them. Computer Information Systems is really hot right now and by balancing that out with a Masters of Business Administration or any other type of business oriented masters level degree, the sky will be the limit for your career!
