I need information about the domestic/political/foreign powers and responsibilities of the British royal family and how their powers have changed over time. A reference to a book or reliable website would be appreciated and proffered.Information about the powers and responsibilities of the British royal family?Well the United Kingdom is a Constitutional Monarchy. This means that the Queen is the Head of State while the Prime Minister is the Head of Government. Basically, with no offence, the Queen is a figurehead. The Prime Minister with the advise of HM's Government runs the UK on a day to day basis. The Queen is able to exercise Royal Prerogative on certain things such as honours, but she can't do major things without causing a Constitutional Crisis. She does meet with the Prime Minister every week to discuss plans and what Government is up to. But most of the time, when she isn't resting or dealing with the House of Windsor she is visiting the UK or Her Other Realms (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) or hosting a visitor.
Legally, the Queen has the power to dissolve and open Parliament, appoint the Prime Minister, and etc, but this is all a technicality. For the most part, she must accept and act on the advice of Her Prime Minister (The Rt Hon David Cameron PC MP). If she would ever go against it, the Prime Minister would have to resign and Parliament would be dissolved for new elections.
Lastly, to summarise, the Queen is the Overseer of Parliament and Government. She only steps in when required.
