I have all my information thousands of pages and now want to make my history something to pass down to my grandchildren any help on what info should go and how to put it all together? What information should i put my family history and how should i organize it?Are you thinking an album style book, one for each? A high quality archival CD? There are so many options to choose among, from the simplest name places BMD to as complete as you want to go. One option would be a fairly simple album style with a photo where available, while you keep the main files since we know you'll keep working on 'em. When you're gone someone will take over as family historian. What information should i put my family history and how should i organize it?It depends on what genealogy software you have. I use family tree maker and there is a place for notes. I put in there obits and anything I think I want to save. You can edit your info an bring it down to a managable amount. I keep all my paperwork in notebooks which I have broken down by family name. Each notebook is one family name. It contains birth, death, marriage certificates, obits, census reports, military records, news articles, etc. I save all my notes and put them in a file cabinet under the family name.
So really it all depends on what you want to put. This is just how I did it and it works well for me.What information should i put my family history and how should i organize it?Spend $20 on the least expensive version of FamilyTreeMaker. I have two such surname files in FTM that represent 1500 pages of hard copy, 120 illustrations with photographs and 13,000 descendants of two Revolutionary War Patriots.
FTM also provides, for free, a website to display your family histories. And, you can display photos, maps, tables, etc. Can't beat it!
