What is some useless but interesting information about the oboe?

Haha. This question made me laugh. (I am an oboe player). I can give you some useless information.
For one thing, you can play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" just on the reed by itself.
Oboes often get confused with "hobo" and "elbow". When I tell people what I play, they say "You play a what? Hobo? Elbow?
Also, they are also mentioned in a lot of tv shows.
The most common useless info is that they sound like a duck. People who are not good players get made fun of for that.
The most common response I get when I tell people what I play......"An oboe? Is that like a flute?" (word of advice- never ask that to an oboe player)
It is considered to be the hardest instrument in band.
Oboe reeds get messed up when the weather changes! (this has been proven)
Here is one other thing that isn't nessescary about the oboe, but about oboe players.......when something goes wrong with our oboes or we mess up and our band director chews us out, we always "blame the reed!" We blame it because it is the most important part of our instrument and it is so fragile.
I actually have a shirt that says blame the reed on it. lol.

They both have info about average wages nationally and state-by-state, job responsibilities, personality requirements, etc. I have looked up Medical Transcription on both websites and they are pretty good. If you don't find anything on your state's DOL website, go onto your state's Unemployment website - they normally have a section with info about training programs for careers. Since Medical Transcription is in demand, it will be there, with info about local schools that offer the program, how much it costs, requirements, etc.

I see it time and time again, I see information repeated, which I *know* to be false. Or then I see "Best Answers" chosen with wrong information in them.
So, how in this day and age, do you judge the quality of the information you're receiving?
How often its repeated? How confidently its said? How sensational? How conspiracy oriented it seems?What constitutes a reliable source of information?Almost nothing on the Internet can be considered "reliable information,' since anyone can publish anything. There certainly is some good stuff out there, but in a situation where accuracy is important I always try to confirm it elsewhere.
This site tends to have a lot of misinformation, so you have to be very careful what you believe. This isn't a good place to look for anything crucial. It's fine to ask for opinions or basic info, but I would never use Yahoo for legal or medical advice, for example.
I hate seeing wrong answers too, and it's even worse when the best answer is wrong. None of the criteria you suggested work; I've seen lots of sensationally bad information repeated confidently, but that doesn't make it true. Good question. I often wonder the same.
I don't really ask questions here, I usually ask opinions. I am going to find my information out somewhere more reliable. But I have asked opinions on avoiding bloat, etc. I already know what I do and what I think, just looking for different perspectives. If I find an interesting different one, I will research into it more.
With opinions, there is no right or wrong, it is agree or disagree (I don't td opinions either)
The biggest thing I look for is sources. You should be able to back up what ever you say. Wikipedia is not a reliable source.
I have been around long enough to know who gives good answers and who doesn't, TC badge or not.
Grammer, spelling and punctuation are also a big one in my book , but apparently not in alot of others. It doesn't have to be perfect. I am not talking little typos, but if you can't spell the breed name, how can you be an expert on it. I can't read the text speak, guess I am too old.

Good question. I often wonder the same.
I don't really ask questions here, I usually ask opinions. I am going to find my information out somewhere more reliable. But I have asked opinions on avoiding bloat, etc. I already know what I do and what I think, just looking for different perspectives. If I find an interesting different one, I will research into it more.
With opinions, there is no right or wrong, it is agree or disagree (I don't td opinions either)
The biggest thing I look for is sources. You should be able to back up what ever you say. Wikipedia is not a reliable source.

What is the difference between an Information Technology degree and a software engineer?
I am going back to school right now and want to eventually get CISSP/ISSEP certified. I'm unsure in which direction to take to achieve this. Just don't get it wet or conduct any electricity through it. (So don't go out in the rain and get hit by lightning.)

I am doing some genealogy research for my husband. I have been unable to find any family names or information prior to his great grandfather. However, I can order his great grandfather's death certificate from the state of Florida for a fee and was just wondering what kind of information is provided on these certificates. Even if the parents names are not on the death certificate, there may be other valuable genealogy information on it, which will justify the cost:
Full name, dates and places of birth and death, time of death, occupation, address, cause of death, mothers maiden name, nearest relatives signature, level of education, funeral home in charge of arrangements, place of burial, the name of the doctor who signed it.
My sister died in Florida, in 1942. The doctor put the wrong death date on my sisters death certificate and misspelled her last name.
The death certificate reflects she died 1 month after she was buried.
My dad died in Florida, in 1989, and his death certificate is more detailed than my sisters, showing cause of death as a heart attack and that he also had colon cancer.
This is valuable information for compiling a family medical history.
My advice is, buy the death certificate.
Sometimes the smallest clue, becomes the biggest clue.

Hi I'm interested in computer courses to study, today I spoke to someone from one of the unis I was interested in one of the courses were more about designing and the other practical and more technical fixing and support the system. I'm really interested in that. Its called computer enterprising. .

I am going to college and I can't figure out wich degree to pursue. My two choices are Accounting or business information systems. Does any one know what which one would pay better and which one would I have an easier time landing a job. So, to answer the question about money. If you had a CPA and CISA designation (many accountants have multiple designations) you would bank major coin. You also would probably have no problems finding a job as long as you were willing to relocate, depending where you are now.
However, on the one or the other side, I think an accountant is probably going to make more money than an information systems person. I believe public accounting firms are averaging 45K to 55K starting off. I don't know what the starting salary for IT people is.
One important thing to remember now that you are starting out. GPA is extremely important with accounting. They may forgive a slip-up one semester, but competition is fierce for the best jobs. If you have to study six hours for every accounting class... do it.
