not formulas, the actual information that one obtains from a star.What information is needed inorder to calculate the luminosity of a star?everything is related to each other if u know the mass, temperature or type of star it is then by using the russell-hertzsprung diagram u can figure out the luminosityWhat information is needed inorder to calculate the luminosity of a star?The Stefan Boltzman law allows you to calculate the luminosity of a star by knowing only two quantities: surface temperature(T in Kelvins) and radius(R in meters).
The equation is L = 4 * pi * sigma * R^2* T^4
where,
pi = 3.141592....
sigma = 5.67 10^-8 W/m^2K^4
The units of luminosity is in Watts.
Sounds easy but radius is usually very difficult to measure for stars. Surface temperature is generally easy to get though.
